I’mmmm baaaaaaackkkkk!

Hey folks—it’s been a while.
(Damn—I thought it’d been two years. Turns out it’s closer to three.)

I’m back with a quick status update… and, naturally, a little complaining.

So what’s happened over the last thousand-something days?
Honestly—not a damn thing. Well, nothing too exciting, which is its own kind of depressing.

The big news: The Houseguest is no more.

She’s fine—don’t worry. She finally moved out to live with her boyfriend, Albert. They’ve been together five or six years, so it was probably time. You know, I was starting to get tired of the knowing looks from people jumping to conclusions about our “relationship situation”.

For some context, after she sold her house, she asked, as a favor to her, if I would let her stay for “a couple of months” back in 2017 while she looked for out-of-state jobs.

I even gave her the master bedroom, thinking I’d move into it after redoing the flooring, after she moved out. Little did I know that she’d dig in like a tick and… well… nine years later, here we are.

While she’s taken a big step, she only moved about two miles away, though. Close enough that she still shows up sometimes, heads back to her old room to take a nap. Or to plonk herself down on the living room couch and flip on the TV. Honestly, it’s like she never fully left.

She says she misses her old bed. And my Sling TV account. How about me? Well, I’m just the guy who opens the door now. (I kid!).

We actually got along great—we were friends who didn’t get in each other’s way. But now she’s adjusting to Albert’s schedule. He’s up at the crack of dawn and in bed by 6 p.m., so she’s had to learn the fine art of tiptoeing around his house. So, it’s a little rough for her and those rambunctious Real Housewives she loves to watch on TV.

So what about me? Still working for the community college system and going to the UK once a year. Somewhere along the way, as you know, I lost steam as a blogger.

Stopped posting. Stopped reading. Just… drifted off.

Maybe it’s age. Maybe I just don’t care about things the way I used to.

Or maybe it’s this nonstop clown show in the American administration and the ripple effect it’s had on everything that’s slowly drained my will to engage with…anything. I even stopped playing video games with some online buddies I’ve known for 20 years because they loved arguing about Donald Trump and politics.

These days, I mostly avoid the news, aside from a quick check-in to make sure everything is still on fire. To cheer me up, the Google algorithm began flooding my news feed with violent crime stories as a substitute, of which there is a glut in America. Lots of poorly written articles about people shooting, stabbing, and doing other unmentionable things to each other. So that’s been fun. Real uplifting stuff.

Anyway, I can’t promise I’m “back” in any consistent way—but I’ll give it another shot.

If anyone’s still out there reading, I appreciate it. If not… well, I’ll just be posting into the void.

So, you know—business as usual.

That’s all for now!

Oh, my dear old friend. It’s good to see you back. And it’s the same thing I’ve been doing. I think you and I have similar personalities. In the wake of violence, lies and corruption on a global scale, I retreat. I’ve lost hope and interest. I force myself to paint every day but my interest in pretty much everything is gone. I don’t think we will ever be ourselves again, to be honest. But, I still count you as my friend, in a world where most have departed, or been sent packing, due to their loss of ability to care for other humans. I’m grateful for that. I’m spending whatever time I have left as a hermit. Sure have missed your writing, Sean. I hope you write more soon. It would be nice to have something GOOD to read again.

  2. Hi Lisa, I’ve missed you online! I totally understand being a hermit, but I’m glad you’re still painting. Hopefully I’ll find a spark of inspiration and get back to blogging semi-regularly.
