Finally Took a DNA Test and Yep, I’m Human (More or Less)

On May 31, 2018January 23, 2021 By Sean D. LaytonIn Houseguest, Human Interest, Humor2 Comments

I've always been fascinated by history and genealogy, so it's been somewhat ironic that I know so little about my family history. So I ordered a DNA test to see what kind of genetic surprises might be hiding in the Layton woodpile.

Burn, Baby! Burn!

On May 29, 2018January 23, 2021 By Sean D. LaytonIn Houseguest, Humor2 Comments

When I was thirteen and the old man asked me to prep the barbecue grill, I thought to myself how hard can it be? Well, I was about to find out.

When the Universe Hates Your Guts

On May 23, 2018January 23, 2021 By Sean D. LaytonIn Houseguest, Humor11 Comments

You know, I wouldn't say I have terrible luck, but it definitely trends toward being consistently on the poor side. I knew this when I was living on a shoe string budget. But everything had been going along just fine...

When a Gold Digger Goes in for the Kill

On May 19, 2018January 23, 2021 By Sean D. LaytonIn Human Interest, Humor, Rideshare5 Comments

It's weird when you meet someone whose behavior is so out there they seem almost like a caricature. I met a young woman yesterday who is a real-life gold digger — or at least who was stretching her wings and trying it out.

Three Ways to Ruin My Movie Experience

On May 16, 2018January 23, 2021 By Sean D. LaytonIn Humor3 Comments

When I’m spending my hard earned cash to watch a movie, I want to have an immersive, enjoyable experience free of distraction. With that being said, three things are guaranteed to ruin my experience and make me feel homicidal.

Airport Chaos with Uber Passengers

On May 1, 2018 By Sean D. LaytonIn Humor, Rideshare1 Comment

Do you like picking people up at the airport? I've always hated it. So it's somewhat ironic that it's one of my preferred spots when I'm driving for Uber — except when I get that one passenger who makes me hate my life.

Battle of the Apples

On April 20, 2018 By Sean D. LaytonIn Blasts from the Past, Houseguest, Humor4 Comments

Wow, it's been over a year since the Houseguest started renting a room. How time flies! In celebration, I thought I'd look back and share one of our earlier misunderstandings.

Should I Stop Doing My Blog?

On April 12, 2018January 23, 2021 By Sean D. LaytonIn Musings15 Comments

Do you ever wonder if you're wasting your time blogging and ask yourself whether you should quit? That was the question I was asking myself the other day.

Help! I’ve Been Poisoned!

On April 1, 2018 By Sean D. LaytonIn Humor, Rideshare3 Comments

When we were kids, my mom always told us to never take candy from strangers. But she never said anything about a full meal.

This piece is written by Basilike Pappa, a Greek poet I like.

About Sean Layton

Born in the UK, I have lived most of my life under the blazing Arizona sun. Okay, that’s a lie, I’ve been sheltering in the air-conditioned indoors. Anyway, I’m a starving writer with an MFA in creative writing (screenwriting & fiction) from ASU.

After attempting to amuse my friends for years with Facebook posts, I decided to make my tales of woe and musings on life in my tiny universe available online for an even larger audience to ignore (at their own peril).

What others call poor decision making, I call teachable moments.
